Developmental Movement
From conception to the end of the first year of our lives as humans we go
through extraordinary sensory- motor changes which lay the foundations for
moving and perceiving throughout the rest of our lives.
The process of our movement development underlies how we express
ourselves in the world. Skipping , interupting ,or failing to complete a stage of
development can lead to issues such as alignment and movement problems
problems in sequencing, organisation, perception, memory , creativity and
communication.
Body- Mind Centering includes detailed assessment and facilitation of these
developmental milestones. It can be done at any age and can enhance
sensory-motor integration at all stages of our lives.
Touch and Bodywork
In hands-on work, through touching in different rhythms, through placing
attention of within specific places and tissues of the body, through following
existing lines of force and suggesting new ones, and through changes in the
pressure and quality of our touch, we come into relationship and ease with the
different tissues and their associated qualities of mind.
Body Mind Centering includes ways of being in contact with the body systems
and layers of tissue through intuitive and informed hands-on bodywork. It can
also mean touch as a way to facilitate developmental repatterning
Experiential Anatomy
Through our awareness we can enter the cells and all of the body system
whether it be muscles, nervous system, skeletal, endocrine, circulatory,
ligamentous and fascia with the intention of getting to know its qualities,
function and how it expresses itself in this body.
Senses and Perception:
Through our senses we receive information about ourselves and our
environment. What we do with this information, how we filter, accept or reject
it is part of the act of perception. If we choose to receive information we bond
with that aspect of our environment and if we block it out we defend against
that aspect. Learning is the process by which we vary our responses based
on each situation.
In order to perceive clearly we need our attention, concentration, motivation
and desire to actively focus on whatever it is that we are perceiving. It patterns
our interpretation of sensory information and without this active focusing our
perception remains poorly organised.
Touch and Movement:
Touch and movement are the first of the senses to develop and establish the
baseline for future perception through taste, smell, hearing and vision.
Exploring our senses and perception can help us understand ourselves better
and find balance within our sensory system.
Creativity
Exploring art forms from an embodied perspective in a playful, creative way
can help us to gain insights about ourselves.
In Body mind centering we use the maps of Western Medicine and Science - anatomy
physiology , kinesiology as well as being influenced by the philosophies of the East. - If
you can find room for this last paragraph somewhere
Psychomotor Integration
Through movement, touch , voice and the creative process Body Mind
Centering explores how the mind is expressed through the body. This cultivates a greater sense of ease, a deeper understanding of the relationship between mind and body and the potential of transformation by
making one’s physical and mental processes more conscious.
